Evolution

A client recently asked me to paint 2 unusual “commissions.” He asked me to repaint 2 of my originals. He didn’t want prints. He wanted originals. This was a first for me. Usually, clients will show me one of my prior works and ask me to paint their painting in that style. They’ll then tell me that I can have free reign after that to paint it however I like. To think that my art has evolved so much that clients give me free reign is so flattering and humbling. I just love it!

This commission was sort of like that. I did have free reign when I painted the originals. The trick for me was to reproduce the originals, yet stay true to my current art. My art continues to evolve although that may be contrary to what “famous” artists do. As my art teacher, Andy Braitman, would say “If you want to be a famous artist you have to wear black and paint the same thing for the rest of your life.”

So the top 2 images are the ones that I recently painted, inspired by my prior paintings, which are pictured below. I used different techniques and different materials, but stayed in the same general idea. I did add a high gloss resin finish to both, which was also a first for me.
